Update on the construction of Paytherden Solar Farm – September 2026

Over the last few weeks, work has been completed on the temporary construction access track for Paytherden Solar Farm, with access located opposite Lanelands on the road between Clyst  Hydon village and Marsh Cross. The construction team will now move on to building the internal access tracks that connect the fields within the site. Further works, including perimeter fencing, will follow, which will take a number of weeks to complete.

Before the summer holidays, Bluefield and their specialist education partner, Earth Energy Education (EEE), delivered renewable energy workshops to more than 40 pupils at Clyst Hydon Primary School and Payhembury CofE Primary School. The sessions received positive feedback from both teachers and pupils.
During the STEM-based workshops, one group of students carried out a biodiversity survey of their school grounds, using age-appropriate scientific techniques to identify and record local plants and wildlife. Another group explored wind power through practical experiments, investigating how turbine blade design and positioning can affect energy generation.
Some of the feedback received from teachers and pupils from both schools included:
“We have done a short geography unit on biodiversity but the practical nature of the workshop and Kate’s engaging manner really helped to consolidate many ideas.”
“I was really surprised at how many different insect species there were in such a small space, you just need to stop and really look.”
“The class have been totally engaged with this practical workshop, the hands-on designing and experimenting and then redesigning has captured their interest and competitiveness.”
“I think I have the best blade design because it has long blades with a twist at the tips.”

Both schools also received a Solar Farm in a Box, an interactive educational kit containing miniature solar panels, circuit components, hands-on learning tools and lesson plans. The kits allow pupils to simulate, within the classroom, how large-scale solar farms generate renewable energy. Bluefield has provided these resources for schools to use throughout the coming terms.
