Horton Solar Farm Construction Notice and Community UpdateAura Power is commencing works for Horton Solar Farm, located between Whimple and Talaton. Construction activities will gradually increase over the spring and summer months, with full construction expected to begin in May 2026.

We are committed to minimising disruption to local communities during the construction period. Traffic associated with substation works only will route through Clyst St Hydon. All construction traffic related to the solar farm itself will access the site further south, from the A30 and will not pass through Clyst St Hydon.

The construction traffic route has been reviewed by a specialist transport consultant and approved by Devon Highways Authority. It has been carefully designed to prioritise safety and reduce disruption as much as possible. In addition, construction traffic will be restricted during school drop-off and pick-up times in the village.

We are committed to working collaboratively with the local community throughout construction and encourage residents to contact us if they experience or notice any issues.

Once operational, Horton Solar Farm will generate enough clean electricity to power thousands of homes. Projects like this are an important part of strengthening the UK’s energy security, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, and supporting the transition to a more affordable and renewable energy system.

Aura Power is also proposing a voluntary community benefit fund of £20,000 per year, index-linked for the solar farm’s 40-year lifetime, to support local educational, social, and environmental initiatives. We welcome suggestions from residents and community groups about how this funding could best benefit the area.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience during construction and thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
